Dr. Kamiar Mireskandari joined as a Staff at the Hospital for Sick Children and University of Toronto in 2009. He studied medicine in England and did his Ophthalmology residency at The Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, England. Dr Mireskandari is double fellowship trained in Cornea, Refractive and External Diseases (Moorfields) as well as Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (SickKids). He received his PhD from the Ocular Repair & Regeneration Biology Unit at University College London based on his thesis: “Models to investigate the role of anti-TGFbeta antibodies in lens and corneal wound healing”.

He is a clinician researcher who focuses on Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus and in particular ways to assess and improve patient care and outcomes. He has over 100 scientific publications and book chapters. He is the Associate Editor of the Journal of the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (JAAPOS) and on the Major Review Committee for the American Association of Ophthalmology – BCSC Book 6 in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. He is the past Chair of the Ophthalmology Research Committee at SickKids, and the past President of the Canadian Association of Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (CAPOS).

He is the co-director of a fully comprehensive paediatric cornea and external diseases program which is the world’s first dedicated fellowship training program in paediatric Cornea. SickKids is a major national and international tertiary referral center and the aim of the cornea program is to deliver full clinical and research training to candidates who will be their national leaders in the field. His clinical & surgical practice includes Corneal transplantation, External diseases, Cataract, Glaucoma, Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) and Strabismus
