Oculoplastic reconstructive and cosmetic surgery includes procedures related to the orbital surround and eyelids: eyelid reconstruction, lacrimal system (tear duct) repairs, orbital fractures and enlargements, and removal of tumors in and around the eyes. Practitioners specialize in the identification and treatment of congenital and acquired abnormalities, including primary, secondary and metastatic tumours of the lid, orbit and lacrimal system. Orbital imaging modalities used include conventional ultrasound, ultrasound biomicroscopy, dacryocystography, computerized tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, and nuclear scans.
